Franklin Controls Destiny

Franklin Ohio: Coach Brad Childers couldn’t be more pleased with how the 2019 season is going. The only thing that could make the coach of the Franklin Football program anymore happy is a conference championship and home field advantage in the playoffs. Franklin would benefit greatly from having their home crowd behind them in the first round of Ohio’s division 3 playoffs. The players agree, many drawing attention to their home record and the energy their student section fills the stadium with on Friday nights.

The Franklin Wildcat’s started the 2019 season the same way they finished 2018, on fire. After barely missing the playoffs last year, this year’s team controls their own destiny heading into a week 9 matchup versus Brookville. Currently, the Wildcats are positioned as the number 2 team in division 3 region 12 according to Joe Eitel. If the playoffs started today Franklin would host its home playoff game vs. Ross. Brookville is a hungry team in there own right. The Blue Devils come into the game playing great football with a 6-2 and in 13th position for playoff standings according to Joe Eitel. Friday night’s matchup has major playoff implications for both programs. In both locker rooms either coach would tell you this is a playoff game on Friday.

Franklin is the favorite this Friday, projected to win the game by three points. The Wildcat’s are led by fan favorite Braden Woods. Wood’s has had an incredible senior season and comes in 3rd in passing in the Southwestern Buckeye League. Woods has attempted 112 passes this season with 73 completions giving him a 65 percent completion percentage. More impressively, Braden has thrown for 15 touchdowns with only one interception giving him an incredible quarterback rating of 193.7. The veteran quarterback is also getting it done with his feet in a big way this year. Wood’s has rushed 97 times this year for 440 yards giving him an impressive 4.5 yards per carry with 4 rushing touchdowns. The Wildcat’s primary wide receiver is Ryan Russell. Russell has had an impressive year with 30 catches for 486 yards and 5 touchdowns. Franklin is also very good on the offensive line. The hogs upfront have led Franklin to an impressive 5.7 yards per carry. The rushing attack has been a major part of Franklin’s success this year. The wildcats have rushed the ball 229 times for 1306 yards and 15 touchdowns. Izac Proctor leads the stingy Franklin defense with 5 sacs and one interception for a touchdown. Tackle stats were not available.

Over their last 5 matchups, the Wildcats have won 3, a trend they hope to continue. Last year, the Wildcats dominated by a score of 21-7. Last week, Brookville was thrashed by Bellbrook 41-0. The Blue Devils are struggling on offense only averaging 16 points. If they dont get back on track this Friday it will be along night facing the potent offense of the Wildcats. Franklin is coming off a 5 game winning streak, including a lopsided victory over Eaton last week 42-0. Franklin is 7-1 and continues to look from big production from its seniors. The wildcats offense looks to keep rolling this week. They are averaging 34.3 points per game over there last 3 game. The defense is also lights out. They are only allowing 15 points per game ranking 23rd in division 3. I look for the veteran leadership and stingy defense of Franklin to be to much for Brookville and their struggling offense this week. I also like what coach Childers and his staff is doing in Franklin. They have built a strong foundation and have some of the greatest community support in the state.
